The future of the corporation and the corporation of the future:

MILITARY
TECHNOLOGIES
PRODUCTIVE
TECHNOLOGIES
REPRODUCTIVE
TECHNOLOGIES

Vertical integration is key to the SocioSystematics vision: a paradigm shift cannot happen if you can’t grasp and manipulate all aspects of the paradigm. The legal vision of the corporation as a person made from people will soon be realizable in a literal sense.
The old way; a group of individuals coming together and forming a corporation that struggles along, dealing with the anarchy that results when any group of people try to act together, will be replaced with what we call Planarchy™.
Using genetic engineering we will construct a completely planned corporation - molecule by molecule - using a mixture of human (and perhaps other animal or plant) genetic materials, and mechanical and electronic components; from the nano-scale on up. The living, physically discrete units that make up the new corporation will embody a Distributed Wireless Network Intelligence with massive data redundancy so that each unit will be both expandable and expendable, with an emphasis on sustainability: any unit can be broken down and reused to create a more relevant updated unit at any time.
Humans are able to adapt themselves to particular jobs and tasks to some degree, but in yesterday’s paradigm the job is usually adapted to the person. At SS we’re working today to be ready for tomorrow. If a job demands a
person with 5 arms or 8 legs, then there’s no reason why we shouldn’t ‘build’ the person for the job.
Job over? Specialized fabrication units will “melt down” the obsolete units and use the raw materials to build the resources for the next job: disposable workers!
Imagine the efficiency of a living corporate network intelligence; unclouded by the physical and emotional shortcomings that plague Homo Sapiens - the age of Homo Corporatus has begun! Some human presence will be needed as the new corporations take their first faltering steps, but the lightning-speed forces of “digital selection” will quickly evolve structures where humans are an impediment to progress. What role will humans play in the new corporate world order? This will be up to the “invisible hand” of the market, and to the market’s perfect avatars; the new corporations.

  DISINCORPORATED

Lifting the rock of corporate personhood to see what crawls out...

In 1886 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that corporations are "Natural Persons" and have (most of) the same rights as human U.S. Citizens (and many that we don't).  This twisted doctrine has been accepted around the world, and today corporations are, in a sense, the dominant "lifeform" on the planet.

So if a corporation is a person, what does that person look like?
In 1998 I had an urge to sew some business-suits together.  I wasn't really conscious of why I wanted to do it, but it soon became obvious to me that I was creating a model of this bizarre modern Frankenstein's Monster: the corporate person.  Working on the first of these sculptures, "Two Faced", I sewed two white businessman shirts together and stuffed them with shredded office paper.  Stepping back from the sculpture I saw that I had created a two-headed Klansman. Scary, but also kind of funny with it's pathetic, abject look. I've continued to explore this rich cultural vein in many media since then, and had a show called "corpoRACIST" of much of this work at Philadelphia's Space 1026 in October of 2004.
